The ‘headless’ Aphrodite – Goddess of Love, Beauty, Fertility and Desire, whose Roman name was Venus – was found in Brindisi, Italy, and was probably carved around the second century AD.
The sign under this statue of Aphrodite in the Louvre, names it as “Aphrodite, dite Venus du type de’Esquilin.”
Esquilino is the name of one of the seven hills of Rome where the most complete Venus of this style was found.
