Apollo by Giambolgna.
This sculpture – the original was a bronze moulded in around 1573 –
is Stone Icons’ interpretation of this classical piece and shows the
youthful god Apollo bending lightly in a pose of great elegance that
seems to echo the curves of the harp and at the same time acts in
counterpoint, stressing the space and outlining its movement.
Jean de Boulogne 1529 – 1608 (in Italy he was known as Giambologna) was
actually born in Flanders and became a leading Mannerist sculptor,
creating most of his famous works in Italy.
